Bonde do Role

The Bonde do Role is a quartet that mixes curitibano samplers of rock with the funk beats typical of Rio, Brazil.
International producer Diplo first found out about the band through their MySpace account, and pushed them using his own fledgling label, Mad Decent, before Bonde was signed to Domino in 2006.
Bonde has been used in various media after being signed to the British label Domino Records: Solta o Frango (which literally means: "release the chicken") is currently heard in a worldwide campaign for the cellphone company Nokia, the track was also used in another commercial for the hit series Ugly Betty on Channel 4 in the UK and it is also to be a feature on the soundtrack of Electronic Arts game Fifa 2008. GQ magazine used their song Office Boy for the behind-the-scenes photo shoot of actress Jessica Alba by photographer Terry Richardson.
In July 2006 the banda made a tour by the United States and Canada with Diplo and banda CSS.
In 2007, the group announced the departure of singer Marina, for the sake of an internal fight among the trio.

Kate Nash

Kate Nash was born in Dublin, Ireland to an English father and Irish mother; she lived in North Harrow. Nash first became interested in music during her childhood. She learned how to play the piano at Sandbach School. She attended St. John Fisher School (in Pinner) and moved onto the St Joan of Arc Catholic School, Rickmansworth. She was taught guitar by teacher Louis Michelle. She studied GCSE Music at the School for Performing Arts and Technology in North London. She auditioned at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School but was rejected, after which she fell down a flight of stairs, breaking her foot. During her recovery, she was housebound and unable to move, so her parents bought her an electric guitar. Nash used this time to focus on her songwriting: she began to write some new songs, finished old ones and decided that she would book herself a gig at a local bar in Harrow called Trinity on Gayton Road to showcase her songs. She subsequently decided to start a career in music. After several gigs, Nash uploaded her music to the social networking website MySpace. Nash found herself a manager before proceeding to look for producers for her music.

The Black Ghosts

Photobucket

Made up of Simon Lord (previously of Simian fame, whose band mates currently make up production duo Simian Mobile Disco), and Theo Keating (previously of The Wiseguys), inspired by producers like Daft Punk and Timbaland combined with Theo’s previous Djing experiences, the Black Ghosts offer a refreshing take on the arguably tired electro-rock genre.

The Black Ghosts’ lament through their perverse, personal pop music. Theirs is a peculiarly British noir , where the divorcee next door dreams of nocturnal visitations from predatory incubi, and an awkward boy genius tinkers with forbidden science in the garden shed. Unmanned Casio keyboards left for dead in the loft burst into requiems of their own composition, attractive cousins are murdered for what they know, and an unspeakable.

VAN SHE

Photobucket

Formed in the early part of 05, Van She are a new band from Sydney. Unashamedly taking bits and bobs from 80’s post punk, funk and synth pop, 90’s grunge, French house, film scores, 70’s Krautrock and the latest collection of innovative artists like Tom Vek and M83, Van She are that unique beast that one was beginning to believe no longer existed – a band that takes all these influences from days gone but makes them sound unique, modern, and…. fresh.

Van She formed when Nick Routledge [vocals, guitar], Matt Van Schie [bass], Michael Di Francesco [synths] and Tomek Archer [drums] all responded to an ad in Sydney’s Drum Media and arrived at an audition for a vocalist for a doom metal band with influences including Sepultura, Entombed, Black Skull and Phil Collins to find the whole thing was a sham. You could call it the result of Satan at work, or you could call it fate.

Since the chance meeting Van She have been playing out and about around Sydney, headlining their own shows and supporting the likes of The Presets and Wolf & Cub.

Dandi Wind

Photobucket

A Dandi Wind performance is an unforgettable event.

Dandi Wind was started in 2003 in Vancouver, Canada by Dandilion Wind Opaine (vocals) and Szam Findlay (music)

Dandi Wind revealed an industrial aesthetic. Vancouver electronic–rock greats Skinny Puppy came up more than once, as did plans for a “Ministry–inspired” record after their upcoming fulllength release. While their music strikes a balance between heavy and dance, Dandi Wind’s lyrics reveal an underlying darkness.

Dandi Wind have also played shows with The Klaxons, The Hidden Cameras, Final Fantasy, Shychild, Simian Mobile Disco, Les Georges Leningrad, Broken Social Scene, Erase Errata and Planning to Rock.

Do yourself a favor and check out their website, www.dandiwind.com, for glorious photos of Dandi and snippets of their music.

Röyskopp

Brundtland and Berge were schoolmates in their hometown of Tromsø, experimenting with electronic instruments in the early 90s. However, the duo did not appear as Röyksopp until years later when they met again in Bergen. The city was a vital scene for underground electronic music at this time, and the band worked with other Norwegian musicians such as Frost, Kings of Convenience’s guitarist/singer Erlend Øye, Those Norwegians and Drum Island in what was called the Bergen Wave.
The word Röyksopp is a stylized version of the Norwegian word for the puffball mushroom, "røyksopp" or literally, "smoke mushroom". This same word can also be used to describe the mushroom clouds that come from atomic bombs, so this imagery is also inherent in their name.

New album is called Madonna of Hard Candy but some songs from the album will also be made available through download via mobile phone before it reaches the shops. The album has the participation of Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Kanye West, is expected to have an overall hip-hop feel, while remaining a pop/dance record at heart. Stuart Price, the producer of Madonna's last studio album, 2005's Confessions on a Dance Floor, described the new album as moving in an "urban" direction. The Sun quoted a source as saying: It’s not all hip-hop though, there are a lot of producers from a lot of genres in there. It could be her most ambitious project yet.

The Kills - Midnight Boom

The Kills are an Anglo-American indie rock band formed by American vocalist Alison "VV" Mosshart and British guitarist Jamie "Hotel" Hince.
Mosshart was previously in Floridian punk rockers Discount, and Hince was in British rock bands Blyth Power and Scarfo. The duo first met when Mosshart heard Hince practicing in the hotel room above hers, and when the former groups disbanded they struck up a songwriting partnership. For months, the pair air mailed work tapes across the Atlantic; this proved to test the patience of both artists as it took days or weeks to get each others tapes, so Mosshart upped sticks from her Florida home and flew to London.

Matt Costa is 22 years old and currently lives in Huntington Beach, California. He grew up like many suburban kids in the 1980's and 90's, listening to music and skateboarding with youthful intensity.

After an accident, the guitar became his companion for the next year spent on the couch and crutches. An early demo fell into the hands of No Doubt's Tom Dumont, who offered his home studio and assistance as producer.

Goldfrapp are a British electronic music group known for their visual theatrics and contribution to the popularization of electronic dance music. The band was formed in 1999 in London, England, and consists of Alison Goldfrapp (vocals/synthesizer) and Will Gregory (synthesizer).

Despite favourable reviews and a shortlisting for the Mercury Prize, the ambient sound of their 2000 debut album Felt Mountain was a commercial failure.Goldfrapp's second album Black Cherry, which incorporated glam rock and synthpop into their music, was released in 2003. The album experienced success across nightclubs in North America and influenced the dance-oriented sound of their third album Supernature. Supernature took Goldfrapp's work further into glam rock and dance music, and enjoyed international chart success. Supernature produced three number one U.S. dance singles, and was nominated for "Best Electronic/Dance Album" at the 49th Grammy Awards. Their most recent album, Seventh Tree, was released in 2008.

MIKA

Mika is a true young internationalist. Born in Beirut in the middle of the 80s, Mika’s family soon found themselves having to move to Paris at the height of the war. When his father was subsequently taken hostage and held at the American embassy in Kuwait the family eventually settled in London. An inevitably turbulent experience for our young hero, he found himself bereft, lost in the chasm of a displaced upbringing. “It was the combination of moving as well as a horrible time I had at school in the first few years of living in London that lead me to forget how to read and write, and stop talking for a little while. I was pulled out of school for over six months; in order to sort my self out and find a new school. This is when music really became important. It got me back on my feet.” He says now that by the age of 9 he knew that songwriting was his destiny. The electric performances that would win over some of the most hardened musical ears on the planet would come later.
